“I grew up by the laws of nature and the animals of the jungle became my friends. I am Jana of the Jungle!”
This Saturday morning cartoon, produced by Hanna-Barbera, ran for one brief season in the fall of 1978. This graphite layout drawing, created for the series, is by noted background artist and production designer Toby Bluth (1940 – 2013). Bluth, the younger brother of Don Bluth, got his start at Hanna-Barbera in the 1970s and eventually moved to Disney as a background stylist and later as a fine artist for the Disney Art Program. This beautifully rendered layout drawing is on pan animation paper measuring 10.5″ x 25″ and it features the artist’s trademark signature on the far left edge of the scene.
